Emotional Freedom Technique

Working with Emotional Freedom Technique

Step 1: Take up three slow long deep breaths; relax yourself in a comfortable position.

Step 2: Identify the physical or emotional problem, which requires the EFT session.

Step 3: Accept yourself as the responsible person for the identified problem.

Step 4: Rate the intensity of the identified problem in an imaginary scale of 0–10, with 0 and 10 as lowest and highest possible scores respectively.

Step 5: Frame an affirmation for the identified problem. For example, an affirmation can be Even though I have this _____________, I love deeply and completely love, accept, and forget myself. (The blank must name the problem like craving for alcohol, fear of spiders, etc)

Step 6: Repeat the framed affirmation thrice…

Step 7: Tap a minimum of seven times on each of the tapping points repeating the shorter reminder phrase. For example, This _____________. (name the problem)

Note: To tap, use both your index and middle fingers together.

The sequence of the tapping points must be as follows:

1. Crown

2. Eyebrows

3. Side of the Eyes (away from Nose)

4. Side of the Eyes (towards Nose)

5. Under the Eyes

6. Under the Nose

7. Chin

8. Collar Bones (towards Throat)

9. Floating bones of the Chest (below Breasts and towards Armpits)

10. Rib Bones ( towards Hip)

11. Thumb

12. Index Finger

13. Middle Finger

14. Little Finger

Notes:

1. While tapping the finger points (for Steps 12–14), tap on the outer side of the fingernails (facing towards Thumb).

2. Do not tap your ring finger, Skip it.

15. Inside Wrist (area you tie your watch band, use two fingers to smack the entire area)

16. Karate Chop (side of the hand, what you would use to make a "karate chop", use four fingers).

Step 8: Hum for 2–3 seconds of any happy song (suggested song could be Happy Birthday).

Step 9: To find the feedback, re-rate the intensity of the problem in the imaginary scale of 0–10.

Step 10: Based on the rating, re-work the problem by altering the affirmation something like Even though I still have this _____________, I love deeply and completely love, accept, and forget myself.

Step 11: Repeat the Steps 6–9.

Important: If you feel relieved, stop the EFT session; else continue with the session, until you rate the intensity of the problem as low in the scale.
